The 5 EEC StrongStart Professional Development Centers (PDCS), providers of free, high-quality professional support to educators and operators/administrators in center-based, family child care, and out-of-school time programs, are excited to share information about a new job opportunity.  We are recruiting additional multilingual facilitators to provide professional learning services in Cantonese, Mandarin, Portuguese, and Spanish and invite you to apply.  

Our services include sessions focused on specific topics, technical assistance, and coaching to support program quality improvement. These services provide educators and administrators with the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills, learn and test new strategies, and build networks of support.  Facilitators will be responsible for conducting different types of professional learning sessions and will receive ongoing training and support from the PDCs.

PDC Facilitator

General Summary of the Position: A Professional Development Center (PDC) Facilitator is responsible for the delivery of training and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) through the PDC Community to educators and leaders in the EEC mixed delivery system.  

A PLC is a facilitated, ongoing, multi-session professional development opportunity.  This allows groups of educators and administrators to meet regularly, share expertise, and work collaboratively to improve teaching skills, enhance program quality, and improve learning experiences for children. Professional Learning Community (PLC) Facilitator Duties and Responsibilities

Examples of Duties:

  1. Facilitate trainings and PLCs virtually and in person, including nights and weekends, through the StrongStart Professional Development Centers with fidelity and consistency in accordance with policies established by the PDC Community, University of Massachusetts Boston (UMB), and the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC).

  2. Participate in all required facilitation related professional development/training identified by the PDC Community, UMB, and/or EEC.

  3. Create, and maintain clear and positive communication channels with PDC, UMB, and EEC staff to ensure high quality service delivery; Facilitator will discuss questions and concerns they have about the PLC in a timely manner. 

  4. Conduct oneself in a professional manner, understanding as a trainer through a PDC, they are representing UMB, the Institute for Early Education Leadership and Innovation, and the EEC.

  5. Access all training/PLC materials such as videos, handouts and certificates in advance of the event and be prepared to distribute them to the participants as needed. 

  6. Facilitate discussions that support training/PLC participants’ engagement and collaboration.  

  7. Use culturally respectful and anti-bias facilitation techniques. 

  8. Thoroughly complete all necessary documents or forms required by the PDC and UMB in a timely manner (including attendance); maintain active user status on all required technology platforms.

  9. Support early educators’ awareness of (and connection to) opportunities offered through the Massachusetts Strong Start Professional Development Centers and other EEC funded initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • To provide professional development to educators working in EEC licensed programs, trainers/instructors must meet one of the following:

  • Have been approved to present coursework for college credit

  • Have been approved to offer training that results in CEUs, PDPs, or CECs;

  • Have at least an associate’s degree in early childhood education or a related field and at least one year of experience in early education, out of school time, or equivalent;

  • Holding a recognized credential in a specific area of training will be accepted as being qualified within that area of expertise; or

  • Meet EEC’s qualifications for lead teacher, site coordinator or have at least three years of experience as a licensed family child care provider

  • Facilitator will be knowledgeable about PLC subject matter. 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (i.e. effective working relationships with all stakeholders)

  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds

  • Content knowledge and/or experience with Family Child Care, G roup Child Care, Out of School Time, public school programs or other settings being served.
