Teaching Children at a Time of Pandemic: Strategies for Interactions and Learning for Family Child Care

Target program type(s): Family Child Care

Target audience: Administrators; Teachers

PLC Address: Online

The Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) has issued new health and safety practices to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Balancing these new safety and healthy practices with rich interactions and developmental learning can be challenging. We will discuss and share strategies for continuing to offer the rich learning opportunities that children need and enjoy, following physical distancing protocols.

This professional development opportunity will total 5 hours – a 2-hour training, followed by two 1.5 hour Theory of Practice sessions. Please plan to participate in all three sessions.

Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to:

  • Examine the current EEC requirements for health and safety to define physical distancing and its importance;

  • Identify strategies to practice physical distancing throughout the daily routine;

  • Provide developmental learning activities for children while maintaining physical distancing;

  • Describe strategies to support social emotional skills while practicing physical distancing;

  • Plan to implement new ideas in your child care program.
